Smart Growth Zoning Codes: A Resource GuideTraditional zoning ordinances and building codes can inhibit the ability of communities to design projects and implement plans that further Smart Growth, such as infill housing, mixed uses, and transit oriented development. As communities evaluate/audit their existing land development regulations (ordinances, statutes, codes, etc.), they should realize many resources exist to inform their decisions to grow smarter.

Several partner organizations from the Smart Growth Network came together to collaboratively design and launch this special web page to help communities adopt and implement changes to their land development regulations that facilitate Smart Growth. We hope the ordinances, reports, and tools collected for this effort will assist communities to assess their existing land development regulations as well as provide templates that can be tailored to address local needs and unique legal frameworks. To browse these land development regulations, please make a selection from the following options. The Infill and Redevelopment Code Handbook

The Smart Growth Network partners that collaborated on this web page also developed a PowerPoint presentation, Making Land Development Regulations Work for Smart Growth.

DISCLAIMER: The land development regulations contained within have been assembled as an education resource and do not represent an endorsement by the Smart Growth Network.
